Creighton Model: Part II (and other options)
This is John during our vacation in Kauai (my favorite island of them all). We took this photo inside a birthing hut of an old village. From the shape of the two stones, I believe the woman giving birth sat right in the middle. Huge leaves are on the ground in the opening. I was just going to take a picture of the spot when John picked up a carving of the baby on top of the leaves and held it in his arms. See, now wouldn’t he make the best dad?!
Creighton Model: 6 months later
So it’s been about six months now since we started the Creighton Model. Things are going pretty well. It’s a little tedious, but starting to become somewhat of a routine. We have a couple more visits with our teacher. We’ll continue to see how things go. We’ve filled up our first chart with green, white, and red stickers. I have learned a lot about myself and my cycles. The great part is they are regular. The last time we met with our teacher, she also recommended Basal Body Temperature Charting. But, honestly, Creighton Model is about all I can handle at the moment.
So they say, on average, most couples trying this method get pregnant in around a year. The person who referred me to Creighton said it took him and his wife 4 months.
Adoption
In the meantime, we are starting to look into adoption again. I still have mixed feelings, but trying to stay open-minded. Our cousin, Lisa, adopted a baby girl in Idaho almost two years ago. Logan is an absolute doll. John spent about 90 minutes on the phone with Lisa who went into detail about all the ins and outs. We’re going to try the same adoption agency she used in Idaho. My concern with choosing agencies is I don’t know who you can trust. Adoptions can cost up to $40,000. I’m wondering if agencies charge exorbitant fees because they know that some people will pay almost anything. I would love to be a mom, but I’m not that desperate.
We hired a local attorney not too long ago who came recommended by a friend. We paid him over a grand for a retainer fee. He placed a few newspaper ads for us as well as a radio ad. It was fun going through the process and recording our spot. But, I was a little skeptical. I used to buy media ads, so I was familiar with the costs based on frequency and location. To run ads in cities where there would be a mix of Caucasians and Asians, and to run enough of them, would have cost and arm and a leg, too.
East meets West
A friend of mine recommended seeing her Reiki Master. I started seeing an acupuncturist a while back as well. But, I didn’t pursue it fully. I may look into it again. The acupuncture doctor I was working with also knew my IVF doctor. I’m starting to think that IVF may be worth a shot again, especially when looking at the costs of adoption. They’re about the same.
Tick tock
Gurls, my clock isn’t just ticking, it’s about to strike midnight. My big 4-0 is this year! And, to be realistic, I don’t want to keep trying much further than that. I give myself two years more–tops!
In the meantime, all you lovely pregnant ladies and mommies, I think you are beautiful. And, yes, I do envy you. So, when you think motherhood is tough, please remember how really very lucky you are and that someone like me would love to be you!
